On Friday night to kick off the weekend, Keshvar Project www.keshvarproject.com will put on an amazing performance with Middle Eastern musicians and belly dancers!! Many of you remember when Highlands of Ohio brought Gaiananda to the Opera House in Bellville back in 2005. Keshvar Project is the same group with new dance numbers and fabulous costumes. This will be a night to remember. There will be an African dance class after the performance and late night campfires. Saturday there will be 2 African dance classes and 2 drum classes, a belly dance class, African food, vendors, kids classes and activities all day, and then a big West African performance with master dancers and drummers at 9pm followed by late night campfires. Sunday will start with a djembe class, kids crafts, brunch with African food and will end with a large dance class led by Vado Diomande. This class becomes quite a performance. Local Artist Show @ Malton Gallery The Malton Gallery will be featuring four local photographers on Sunday August 23rd from 3-6pm. Cincinnati Salsa Festival, Aug 27-30 This festival, started last year, becomes an annual event this year and features wonderful entertainment for all ages – music, dance and more. The roster of fun includes a Guinness World Record Attempt at Largest Salsa Class, a Kids Zone with games, pony rides and petting zoo, dance workshops, delicious concessions by local restaurants and many world class performances including headliners Chamaco Rivera and the Casablanca Tribute to Tito Puente. Cincinnati Salsa Fest brings together people of all ages to celebrate and share in the fun, exciting world of Salsa. The festival takes place from Aug 27-30, 2009 in downtown Cincinnati. It kicks off from 7-10 pm on Aug. 27 with a free concert by Son del Caribe and a free Salsa class on Fountain Square. Friday, Aug 28 features the Chicago Mambo All-Stars and the preliminary round of the Tri-State Salsa Open Championship, a regional dance contest. In addition to live music, there will also be a bachata/meringue room on the lower level, hosted by DJ Lexuz. 9 pm -1 am at the Contemporary Arts Center, 44 E 6th St. $15. Saturday, Aug 29 involves dance workshops from 10 am – 2 pm at the Hyatt Regency, 151 W 5th St, followed by the first full day of the Salsa Festival at Sawyer Point (open noon-10 pm). At 6 pm there will be an attempt to break the Guinness World Record for Largest Salsa Class. The evening will feature the After-Party at the Hyatt Regency from 10 pm – 3 am, showcasing the Casablanca band and the final round of the Tri-State Open Championship. Sunday, Aug 30 features dance workshops from 10 am – 2 pm at the Hyatt Regency, followed by the second full day of the Salsa Festival at Sawyer Point from noon – 9 pm.
