The Insider Arts + Culture Newsletter May 21-28, 2009 Zeit Recommends: Get Down Give Back Get Down and Give Back at the 20th Century Friday, May 22 The regulars at Habit's Sunday night open mics have put together a huge concert at 20th Century to benefit The Music Resource of Cincinnati and Habitat for Humanity. Open Mic hosts Marshall Bertram and Monte Lykins will be performing, joined by the Barren River Band, Kyle English, Fred Steffen, Ike Wilhelm, Hannah Bertram, Steve Henry, Jim Castro and The Zachary Burns Band as well as other Open Mic regulars. Dan Marshall and Amanda Orlando, formerly of the B-105 Morning Show, will emcee. The Music Resource Center of Cincinnati, which opens this spring, seeks to educate and inspire urban youth through music and to help equip them with instruments and life skills that will benefit them in the future. Habitat for Humanity remains one of the most well-known charities in the nation, a non-profit Christian housing ministry that seeks to eliminate substandard housing by building simple, decent, affordable homes to sell to low-income families in need. The entire performance will be recorded onto a CD and given to the performers. The CDs will also be available for sale at Habits Café following the concert. It is the hopes of those behind the cause that this concert can become an annual occurrence and will continue to raise money for those who need it most. The concert begins at 8 p.m. (doors open at 7) at 20th Century Theater, 3021 Madison Road. $5 or free admission with the donation of a used musical instrument.
